A fine sporting fish from the USA, Rainbow Trout have gained the respect of
trout fisherman everywhere since first introduced in the last century.

Rainbow Trout characteristics:
Like all members of the Salmon family the Rainbow trout looks particularly
well designed. Its slim, streamlined body is perfectly suited to a predatory
lifestyle in fast flowing rivers and streams. The back is grey green, the
sides silvery and the belly white. Rainbows usually have a purplish stripe
along their sides and it is this which gives them colourful name.

Where to find Rainbow Trout:
Rainbow Trout prefer fast moving rivers and streams, but they seem to thrive
in still waters, especially reservoirs.
Feeding Habits:
Rainbow Trout eat almost anything in or on the water, at any depth - from
nymphs and molluscs on the bottom, to insects falling on the surface - just
like the brown trout. Like brown trout they become more predatory as they
get older. At only a couple of pounds in weight, they attack small shoals of
minnows and sticklebacks, and by the time they reach double figures they are
eating any fish smaller than themselves. In still waters they often feed
like mackerel, by sticking together rounding up prey fish in the shallows
and attacking them.
Rainbow Trout Baits:
The most common baits on day ticket / still water venues would be the fly.
When the fish are dour and not showing anglers often try covering as much
water as possible by using Spinners, lures or flashers to try and locate the
fish.
